Hock's Principle
Simple, clear purpose and principles give rise to complex and intelligent behavior.
Complex rules and regulations give rise to simple and stupid behavior.
Obsessive control isn't always the answer to chaos.
| Insight
Meaningful connections are built on shared vulnerability.
Challenge: Write about a time when you shared vulnerability with someone and how it strengthened your connection with them.
Example: Opening up about a personal struggle, admitting a mistake, or sharing a deep fear.
| Quote
Nikola Tesla, a pioneering inventor and electrical engineer, on the power of imagination:
"The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane."
| Question
When you think about the community or world around you, what change would you most like to see? How can your actions today contribute, even in a small way, to that change?
A Parable I Enjoyed
The Wind and the Sun: Kindness is King
The Story: A dispute arose between the Wind and the Sun about who was the stronger of the two. They decided to settle the issue by seeing who could get a passing traveler to take off his cloak first. The Wind blew with all his might, but the harder the Wind blew, the tighter the traveller grasped his cloak and wrapped it around himself. Then the Sun shined it's soft, kind rays, and as the traveller felt more of the genial warmth, he finally removed his cloak. The Sun was declared the winner.
