Satisficing vs. Maximizing

Satisficing: Picking the first option that satisfies an acceptable threshold—typically doesn't result in the best solution.

Maximizing: Spending time and effort to ensure you've solved something optimally—typically results in the best solution.

| Insight

Progress is better than perfection.

Challenge: Reflect on a project or task where you aimed for perfection and how it affected your progress. Write about how focusing on progress instead could have led to better results.

Example: Procrastinating on starting a project out of fear of not doing it perfectly.

Nikola Tesla on the power of visualization and the importance of original thinking:

"The gift of mental power comes from God, Divine Being, and if we concentrate our minds on that truth, we become in tune with this great power. My mother had taught me to seek all truth in the Bible. Therefore, I devoted the next few months to the study of this work. Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born. My method is different. I do not rush into actual work. When I get an idea, I start at once building it up in my imagination. I change the construction, make improvements, and operate the device entirely in my mind."

| Question

How can I learn to embrace uncertainty and trust the process of life?

A Parable I Enjoyed

The Stonecutter (Source: Japanese and Chinese Folklore)

A stonecutter, unhappy with his lot in life, wishes to become more powerful. A series of transformations occur, making him a rich man, a king, the sun, a cloud, and finally, a stone. In the end, he realizes that he was most powerful as a humble stonecutter. The parable teaches the importance of contentment and finding happiness in one's own circumstances.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, all.

Until next time,

Alex
